Nonobjective Collection

"Art can permeate the deepest part of us, where no words exist."

- Eileen Miller

This body of work explores the concepts of uncertainty and loss of control. Most of my paintings are strategically planned, however I start these pieces with a general concept or vision and allow it unfold during the process of creation. More experimental in approach, I employ looser painting techniques such as fluid washes, palette knife application and éclabousser.

This painting stemmed from a vision that came to me while I tossed and turned in the early morning hours. It harnesses the concepts of uncertainty and loss of control. Using a more intuitive approach, the piece unfolded during the process of creation.

Visceral

9" x 12" | acrylic on gallery stretched canvas | sold

When you experience a deep loss you are never the same. The love for your person never changes, but the way you hold it and express it adapts to their absence. You live with grief everyday and it becomes a part of who you are.

Ambivalence

Abstractions empower me to surrender to emotional engagement. They prioritize liberation and improvisation over traditional process. The experimental approach to the physical material also allows me to remain fluid in my decision-making therefore the painting develops without constraint, or preconceived conventions.

Ambivalence II

5" x 7" | acrylic on gallery stretched canvas | sold

This painting is derived from my grief experience while incorporating my son's art. The lines are inspired by one of my favorite drawings he made, which is framed and hangs in the hallway. His unapologetic marks are reminiscent of automatic drawing as they playfully cascade across the space.

Viable

5" x 5" | acrylic on gallery stretch canvas

This painting expresses the concept of trying to move forward and function adequately after experiencing loss and trauma. It is a complex and messy process. I used multiple layers of paint and sectioned shapes to show the depth of feelings and the compartmentalization that one must do to survive.

Remain

verb: continue to exist, especially after other similar or related people or things have ceased to exist.

There are certain qualities that never waver, even after your world has been turned upside down: faith, hope and love.
