About Jamie Lynn
A perpetual artist, my creative journey began when I was a child spending my free time drawing and coloring in between playing outside and exploring the acres of woods that encircled our family home. As I grew up my commitment and pursuit of art never wavered. Holding a bachelor of fine arts degree from Meredith College, a K-12 North Carolina teaching license and a master’s degree in art education from East Carolina University I work to teach and inspire young artists in the public school system.
I create intentionally with acrylic, gouache and clay using rich colors, forms and expressive marks to convey my emotions. I favor stretched canvas when painting as it proves stable enough to handle the visceral strokes I passionately apply to it, layer after layer. Ceramics provides another dimension of expression offering the tactile satisfaction of sculpting transformed earth between my hands.
Experiences serve as a catalyst for my creativity compelling me to harmonize these defining moments coupled with insightful reflections into tangible imagery to further clarify uncertainties. I prioritize the creative process typically ignited by a cyclone of vigorous internal thoughts, is then guided by my intuition. Writing, sketching and recording in sketchbooks help to solidify my visions. I employ personal symbolism and a developed visual vocabulary to create deliberate compositions that evoke meaning and beauty. My current body of work explores the recent journey with my son, who gained his angel wings in November 2023.
I believe art is essential, powerful and should be accessible to all. Because of this I aim to bring beauty, meaning and connection into the world through my work. I encourage others to use art as a healthy outlet to process difficult feelings. I am proud to be a high school art teacher and have been teaching and mentoring young artists for over 15-years, sharing my passion with younger generations.
